Frequently Asked Questions
- Is Laser Hair Removal safe?
Laser-based treatments have been used for many years for a variety of medical and cosmetic procedures. Candela, manufacturer of our laser products, pioneered some of the safest and most effective technologies and products available today.
Our lasers produce non-ionizing radiation which does not cause cancer. However, if you’ve previously had skin cancer, treatment may not be appropriate.
- How does Laser Hair Removal compare to Electrolysis?
Laser hair removal is much faster and less painful than Electrolysis because each pulse targets an 18-mm area of the skin rather than individual hair follicles.
- Is Laser Hair Removal right for me?
Lasers are most effective on dark-color hair. Lasers will not remove red, blonde, or white hair. Lighter hair may require more visits.
People with certain medical conditions and those taking sulfa-based antibiotics, Retin A or other medications that increase photo-sensitivity are not treatable.
Laser hair removal can be performed on people with darker skin pigments, however tanned skin cannot be treated.
Women cannot get laser treatments while pregnant.
- How long will each visit take?
Laser hair removal is quick. Typically, treatment of a man’s back, shoulders, and neck can be completed in less than one hour. A woman’s bikini area or underarms can be treated in under 30 minutes.
Your level of tolerance to discomfort may also be a factor in the length of a single visit.
- Does Laser Hair Removal hurt?
There’s discomfort associated with each pulse of the laser that is often described like a rubber band being snapped on the skin. The sensation diminishes quickly. For sensitive areas we offer a topical anesthetic numbing cream. Alternatively, over-the-counter medication such as Ibuprofen may diminish discomfort.
- How will I look and feel after my treatment?
Your skin may be slightly red with some swelling, similar to a light sunburn, for a few days. Not all of your hair will be removed at the time of treatment. In the days that follow, some hair may appear to be growing. It’s actually your body’s process of shedding dead hair which can take a weeks to complete.
- How long will it take to remove my unwanted hair?
On average, women require five to six treatments every six to eight weeks. Unwanted hair should be entirely removed within a year.
Men require six to eight treatments every six to eight weeks. Unwanted hair should be entirely removed within 15 months.
Since hair develops new growth with age, some clients need periodic maintenance visits.
- How much does it cost? Is treatment covered by insurance?
